Lara disembarks the Desert Railroad at a train yard in
Alexandria. Run forward, down the steps, and turn right. Run
forward down the dark corner of the alley. Draw pistols and kill two
black scorpions (1, 2) that creep out of
the darkness and collect a small Medi Pack (1) from the dark southeast corner of the
alley. Turn left and run up the flight of stairs. Turn right at the landing and run forward. Draw pistols when Lara steps into the open courtyard with the fountain. A mercenary (3) will emerge from the right and start running across the courtyard as soon as he spots Lara. He is attempting to lure Lara into a nearby house where some of his friends await in ambush. Chase him down and kill him quickly. Enter the alley to the south and turn left to enter the first doorway of the building in the southeast corner of the courtyard. Just inside the building the hallway will turn to the right. Follow the hallway until it turns to the left and opens into a room full of crates. When Lara spots a mercenary (4) climbing down some crates in the room beyond, draw weapons and exit the building. Kill the mercenary when he exits the building. Reenter the building and kill another mercenary (5) that is lurking on top of the crates on the left in the first large storeroom. Exit this house and turn right. Run forward and turn left before Lara reaches the sandy courtyard. Step forward to the doorway of the building on the left. Open the door and draw weapons. Take a step inside and take aim on another mercenary (6). Open fire while hopping backwards out of the building to kill him. When he's dead, reverse roll and run forward toward the fountain. Turn right and approach the building with the arches and the balcony. Open the door and step inside. Turn right and run up the stairs to the first landing. At the next landing, turn left and run up another flight of stairs to enter Jean-Yves field office. On the second floor of a quaint building in Alexandria is Jean-Yves' field office. Inside Within the office, several statuettes are on display in a glass case. A pair of well-worn glasses lie on a table near an old printing press and a microscope. When Lara steps into the office, she finds Jean-Yves working at his desk with his back turned toward Lara. Lara closes the door, and Jean-Yves turns around with a start, "Lara, you are alive. I feared for you. What..." Lara answers the question before he can ask it, "Von Croy has the amulet." A worried look washes over Jean-Yves face. He express his worries, "Ah, this is bad. But he doesn't yet have the armor. There is still time to prepare for Seth." Lara leans against a pillar near the entrance of the office and sighs, "Jean, I'm tired. Give a girl a break." She shakes her head Jean-Yves is sympathetic, but remains committed to the task at hand, "My dear, when all this is over you can retire. But now we must move swiftly. My men dive in the bay for remnants of Cleopatra's lost palaces." Lara's interest is piqued, "Cleopatra?" "Yes," Jean-Yves replies as he rises from his desk. "She realized the armor's significance and had it brought here. Some was subsequently scattered but..." Lara cuts him off to ask, "Where do you recommend I start looking?" Jean-Yves continues to explain while walking across his office toward the open window, "In the catacombs under Alexandria. My diggers have unearthed chambers connected to the Great Library. This would hold the true location of Cleopatra's palaces." He gazes blankly out the window. "Take me there," Lara insists. Jean-Yves hesitates, "There is a problem." Lara already knows what the problem is and lets a cursed name pass from her lips, "Von Croy." "Yes," Jean-Yves confirms. Jean-Yves closes the window and continues, "His dig is expanding. Crossing many of my own tunnels. Of course, my men would no longer work when Von Croy's thugs appeared on the scene." "Time to introduce myself to Werner's loyal work-force," Lara spits. "First you must get into the catacombs," Jean-Yves interjects, hoping to provide Lara with a bit of a plan before she charges off. He continues to talk while peering out at the courtyard through the louvers of his closed window, "Von Croy has been completely sealed up, and I fear he will soon have the armor." "Over my dead body," Lara vows. "This I fear also," Jean-Yves adds in a fatherly tone. He turns to Lara, "I shall wait here for you. Return if you feel I can help in any way. Good luck, Lara. I fear you may need it." "I make my own luck," Lara adds emphatically while pointing to herself.(follow plot) |

Laser Sight
|
When Lara is done talking to Jean-Yves run forward to the small file
cabinet ahead near the stairs down below the light fixtures. Pick up
from atop the file cabinet a laser sight (2), a quiver full of regular crossbow bolts
(3), and a box of regular shotgun shells
(4). Turn around and run toward the northeast corner of the office and pick up another box of regular shotgun shells (5) from the dark corner between the bookshelves. Exit the office through the archway in the west wall and step out onto the balcony. Immediately turn left, draw weapons, and run forward. Open fire on a mercenary (7) on the next building while running to the end of the balcony. Take a running jump over the gap between the building and charge the mercenary while firing. When he's dead, run back around the corner of the upper ledge of this building to take out a second mercenary (8). Pick up a pair of Uzi clips (6) off the body of this second mercenary. |

SECRET #1
|
Turn and walk along the this ledge toward the west. Side step
to the left to line up with the roof of the building ahead and take a
running jump and grab to reach the edge of the roof. Shimmy to the
right, around the corner of the building and line Lara up with the
switch on the wall below her. Release from the edge of the roof and grab onto the switch. Allow Lara's weight pull the switch down, which will open a wooden panel inside the building. When Lara drops to the ground, turn right and run forward. Turn left and reenter the building. Run across the room and enter the alcove revealed by the open wooden panel, which is SECRET #1. Pick up a large Medi Pack (7) and two quivers full of regular crossbow bolts (8, 9). Reverse roll and run forward to exit this alcove and continue forward out of this room. |

Safety drop to the ground1.
Run to the building with the arches and the balcony which houses
Jean-Yves' office. Enter the building through the doorway, turn right
and run up the stairs. Turn left at the landing and return to his
office. Run forward to his desk. Lara sits down in the empty chair and kicks her boots up onto Jean-Yves' desk. He offers, "More information, Oui? I believe some of the armor could be here in the town. A local collector had a small exhibition and was rumored to own a piece." Lara sits up and listens more intently as Jean-Yves continues, "It is hard to say if this is true. The man was a fool. A while back he vanished, leaving the exhibition boarded up. So, If Von Croy has not gotten to it, perhaps, this would be the place to begin." Lara stands. (follow plot) Reverse roll, and exit the office and run down the flight of stairs. Turn right and run down the second flight of stairs and turn left to exit the building. Turn left once more and run forward to return to the alley between the buildings on the southern side of the courtyard. Run forward and turn left. Follow the alley as it winds back to the right. Draw weapons, run forward to enter the building. Turn left and open fire on another mercenary (9). Kill him by firing while charging at him, running or jumping past him, and reverse rolling. Pick up the small Medi Pack (10) that he drops when he falls. Inside the building turn right and follow the tunnel enter the coastal ruins. |
