London Calling

All the London levels for our guide for Tomb Raider III have been completed and are ready for viewing. Now onward to Antarctica.

Lara's Treasures

In a recent email correspondence with Rich Morton, lead level designer for TR3, we asked Rich about two of the artifacts on display in Lara's treasure room in the training level of TR3.
Rich confirms that the gold idol is an "inside joke", being that the idol is based on the one that Indiana Jones finds at the beginning of the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie but with the face of Eidos producer, Mike Schmitt.

When asked about the other artifact, Rich replied, "The other artifact (the spinning orb) is the IRIS, an item from one of Lara's past adventures. It could appear in a future [Tomb Raider] game though."
Busy Busy

I've been terribly busy searching for a new job and preparing for my move across the country. I've just got the Antarctica levels left, but I'm finding less and less time to play Tomb Raider 3.

Be aware that in mid-April, I will likely move this web site to a commercial web host and try to do so without interruption in service, but I can't make any guarantees. (Old articles...)

Long Live the Queen

The guides for the Thames Wharf and Aldwych levels have been completed. In case you've been waiting for either of these levels, you can help yourself at our guide for Tomb Raider III.

New Staff

We'd like to welcome Donald MacDonald, to the Guide's Staff. Don is an English teacher in Hong Kong and has offered his talents to us in his careful
editorial work on the Tomb Raider 3 walkthroughs. Welcome, Don and thanks for all your help.

Life Transitions

In slightly non-Tomb Raider related news, my wife has received her medical residency match results today. It looks like we will be moving away from the Boston area to San Diego sometime mid-May. Moving will mean all sorts of hectic activities like, selling and
buying a home, looking for a job, and relocating this web site to a new host. I still hope to finish our Tomb Raider III guide by May, but consider this an advanced warning for possible difficulties in completing this guide on schedule or in replying to e-mails promptly. I will make every effort to move this site with no or at least minimal disruption, but I ask for your understanding if things don't go as smoothly as I hope. Thanks. (Old articles...)

Nevada Revisited

We at the Guide were a bit disappointed by the lack of coherent plot in the Nevada levels of Tomb Raider III. As with many Tomb Raider fans, the staff at the Traveler's Guide prefer to view Lara as a sympathetic character, and so we were left wondering what motivated Lara to risk breaking into a high security US military base and shoot US Soldiers. Thus, we have supplemented those
levels with our own plot in an attempt to make Lara's motivations and actions in these levels more meaningful to the player. To read our little fan fiction, please start reading at the beginning of our Nevada Desert walkthrough.

In other news, we have received confirmation from Richard Morton, head map designer for Tomb Raider 3, that the artifact at the end of Area 51 indeed should have been named "Element 115" and not
"Ora Dagger". This problem seems to appear only in the PC version of Tomb Raider 3, as PlayStation owners state that they receive Element 115 in Nevada and the Ora Dagger in the South Pacific.

South Pacific

Finally, the guides for the South Pacific levels have been completed. To check them out just click on the Tomb Raider 3 Guide index page. (Old articles...)

Lara's Birthday

We at the Guide would like to remind you that Lara Croft is not a real person, but nonetheless, February 14th has been designated as Lara Croft's birthday, and far be it from us to spoil the party. In honor of the occasion, we at the Guide have churned out the last of the Nevada levels for our Tomb Raider III guide. From here, we're headed to the South Pacific. We're still working on some of our home-grown
fiction to add to the Nevada levels to fill out that subplot. Many players have asked about who the "bikers" are, what role the aliens and the spacecraft play, and why is Lara shooting military police. We think we've done a pretty good job at stringing together a twisted tale of intrigue that will provide answers to those questions. When we get that done, we'll let you know here.

Besides another level in our Tomb Raider III guide,
I have typed up another editorial for your perusal. In this editorial I discuss bugs and common complaints that have been voiced about the latest installment in the Tomb Raider series.

Thanks Mike!

A belated "Thanks" to Mike "Redlegg" Kelly, of Eidos Interactive Customer Care, for including our web site in the official support FAQ on the Tomb Raider 3 CD ROM. (Old articles...)

New Year, New Guide

Once again, the new year has brought me a new Tomb Raider. As the changes on the title page imply, things are happening here at the Guide. Work has begun on the Tomb Raider 3 Traveler's Guide, but progress is slow because I'm busy with work. If you scan down the menu on the left side of the new title page, you'll find a couple of new sections. I've added the Frequently Asked Questions to the
menu. There, I've put up a list of FAQ and tech. support files available on the web. You'll also find snark^'s alt. games. tombraider FAQ. Also on the main menu, you will find our Editorials section where, if you are interested, you can read my opinions on various slightly Tomb Raider related topics. Finally, we have written a complete and detailed Biographical Sketch of Lara Croft. Yes, we know she's not a real person, but we wanted to detail Lara's history to help readers understand her character. The biography is compiled solely from official sources and documents Lara's life from her birth to her latest adventure. Vicky Arnold, scriptwriter at Core, was kind enough to fill in some of the "lost years" for us and gave us some interesting comments on aristocracy and how Lara might have learned archaeology without going to college. Be sure to read her comments in the footnotes. (Old articles...)
