The Plot Thickens

In an effort to firm up the plot holes in TR2, we have updated the
backplot page and added descriptions at the beginning and/or end of some of the walkthrough pages to address the some of the unclear plot points. Have a look at the walkthrough pages for the second guide if you'd like to see what we think is going on.

The most pressing plot points include descriptions for
why Lara goes to China and why Lara ends up in an alley in Venice.

Out of Control

Some of you may have visited the new title page and tried out the new remote control. However, the remote console does not work with Microsoft's Internet Explorer v4.0 as as previously reported. MSIE 4.0 does not support the JavaScript "open" command. As nice as that is to avoid those unwanted pop-up ad-banners, it also prohibits us from
opening a remote console for MSIE users.

However, in other news, I've made a new title graphic for the title page. It's a whopping 40K (about twice as large as a good web image should be) but in my opinion, it's darn spiffy.

I've also added support for Shadow of the Cat and Unfinished Business on the new title page and on the console for when I write up the guides for those levels.
Level Up

The Barkhang Monastery level is done, but I'm uncertain about the number of kills due to the large number of monks in the monastery. I made attempts to eliminate monks to try to perform a body count, but TRII crashes when I tried that. I have published the maximum number of kills being 52. If you believe those numbers are incorrect, contact me at ichou@trinity. westhost.com (Previous articles...)

Off To Tibet

Well, I'm finally out of the murky depths of the sunken ship levels. I'm proud to say that was able to get through Living Quarters and The Deck with fairly little difficulty. I might have even been able to get through The Deck without using any Medi Packs but the fall to the life raft gave me pause.

Anyhow, I'm finally in the Tibetan levels, and I'm looking forward to some levels with daylight.
Remote Control

You faithful readers of this news page, know that I'm working on cleaning up the title page of this web site by creating a new title page to replace it. (I'd be glad to hear your comments if you have any: ichou@trinity. westhost.com.)

However, you may not know about a cool new feature, I'm working on: a "remote control" for the Traveler's Guide to facilitate the navigation of my web pages. If you are using a
"Version 4" web browser (Netscape 4.0 or Internet Explorer 4.0) then you should try it out and let me know what you think. If you tried out the console before this weekend, try it again, because it does more than just flip pictures and secrets on and off now.

News Worth Its
Weight in Gold

Word has it (on The Croft Times web site) that the "Unfinished Business" and "Shadow of the Cat"
add-on levels for the original Tomb Raider will be made available for download off the net. So the future looks very promising for Volumes 3 and 4 of the Traveler's Guide.

Also reported on The Croft Times, Tomb Raider Gold will be a two CD set. Here's hoping Eidos also plans to sell the second CD at a reduced price so we can complete our TR collection without owning several copies of Tomb Raider. (Previous articles...).

Humble Pie

I've eaten my fill of it in the Wreck of the Maria Doria. I've done my penance for
my boasting in the two previous levels. This is the first level that I've had to use more than one medi-pack (used 1.5). I could have used just one, but I wasn't sure how much level was left and fear cost me a small medi pack. If you know of how not to take damage on that first drop through the swimming pool, do let me know.
Anyhow, I'm finally in the Living Quarters, but this news article isn't merely confession and repentance. I'm also revamping the title page of my site.

I think the new title page is much more visually pleasing than the old one, which was far too wordy. I've also added cool new graphics and a little remote control to make controlling the pictures and secrets options easier. For you kind people who read my site news, here's a preview of the new title page. I'll replace the old
page when my second guide is complete, so don't bookmark that page. The URL will change.

Going for Gold

If you haven't heard, there finally seems to be some real word about Unfinished Business as well as two additional levels called Shadow of the Cat which will be released as "Tomb Raider Gold".

Do I plan to write guides for those levels? I hope so. I'm
also hoping that they will be available for download, because $30 US hardly seems worth a mere four TR-I levels. (Maybe I'll win that contest. =)

If not, the future of those guides will depend on their availability at a discount at Sam's Club and if my wife doesn't think I've spent too much money on computer stuff this year. (Previous articles...)

Progress Report

I am happy to inform you that I have completed the Offshore Rig level and am currently working through Diving Area. For people who are having trouble with some of the enemies on these two levels, I think you'll find the walkthrough for these two levels an interesting read.

<brag> Why do I think
I've got the line on the bad guys? Well, I managed to get Lara through the Offshore Rig without using any medi packs (or cheat codes), and thus far through the Diving Area Lara hasn't taken any damage. Impossible? Nope. It's possible. You just need to figure out how the enemies behave, because they behave the same way in all instances.<\brag>

New Banner

I've made a banner for
people who want to link to me. It's a pretty big animated gif, but I think it's pretty cool. If you want to use it, you can download or link to it here.

Wishful Thinking

This is one gave me a good laugh. I check the error logs for my web server every couple of days. I told to you what I found last time. This time's even better.

It seems that people think that I'm a professional video game
strategy guide writer (I'm not by the way) because a multiple errors were logged for someone is trying to access the "residentevil" directory on my web site which obviously does not exist.

I regret to inform you that I didn't and don't plan to write up any guides for "Resident Evil". Its interesting that both hits that generated this error and the last one came from an AOL user. Coincidence? I don't think so. (old news...)

Ouch! Hit Me Again!

Okay, thanks for visiting my site and for taking the time to read this page. With about 1,500 hits to my old web page a day, I'm very flattered that some people out there think that my guide is worth their time to visit.

However, it seems that there are people
out there who seem to think one of the following things: Either I am an amazing Tomb Raider player, an extremely prolific and talented writer, but a brain dead HTML coder, or I'm some kind of sadistic troll who would produce informative web pages and then keep them to myself.

The reason someone must think these things, is because there are people who are actually typing the URLs for levels of my
Tomb Raider II guide that I haven't even created yet!

Let me remind you of what I said from when I started work on this second guide: I will publish each level that I finish on the Table of Contents page of the new guide only when that entire level is complete. When the entire guide is done, I will put a link to it on the Title page.

If there aren't links to the pages for the level you need help on, then they
simply don't exist yet. Typing the URL in your web browser's location box will not let you see pages that I you think I'm in the middle of working on, nor will it cause you to travel through time to see future pages that don't exist yet. All you are successfully doing is bloating the web server's error log.

See why it's so important to read old news? Well, with that off my chest, please come inside, enjoy yourself and sit a spell. (Previous article...)

Hit Me!

Geez, I turn my back on my pages for a couple of months and you guys hit it a hundred thousand times! According to the counter on my
original Tomb Raiders Traveler's Guide there have been over 107,000 hits since it's inception. That's pretty darn amazing to me, considering this web site's humble beginnings.

Most of all, I wanted to thank everyone for writing me all those encouraging words. So far I haven't had any,
"you're an idiot, your advice stinks and your web site is ugly" comments, (which is nice) but that doesn't mean that your critical comments are not welcome! The only way I can know what you want to see here is to e-mail me at: ichou@trinity. westhost.com. Go ahead. It's okay. I don't bite. People who already e-mailed me know that I'm a friendly guy, and if I have time, I almost always reply to questions and concerns. Progress Thus Far

After acquiring my own copy, I restarted my game from the beginning, and made corrections where I found mistakes. As of this week, I finally caught back up to where I was when I left off in the Opera House. I finally finished off the level and put up the links for the Opera House on the Table of Contents. I'm muddling through Offshore Rig now.
For people who have fast internet connections and have "turned on" pictures for my web site, you should note that I have a lot of new pictures and a lot of slightly different ones than the ones you find everywhere else on the web. Some are "enhanced" versions. Some are edited. Some are the same. If you can spare the bandwidth, then enjoy. (old news...)

Holiday Blues

Over the holidays we suffered multiple power outages, and when power was restored, my webserver came back up but did not mount my file server. As a result, the Tomb Raiders Traveler's Guide was down for about a week with what appeared to be broken links, when in fact, the directories and files that were requested simply did not exist. Everything
should be back up and working now. I'm going to spend a little time making sure that this doesn't happen again and that my home directory automatically mounts whever this server reboots.

My thanks to all those people who expressed their concern and contacted regarding the problem. So to answer your question(s): No, I haven't changed the link locations. No, I haven't stopped work on the new guide. No I
haven't deleted the old guide.
Happy New Year!

It is indeed!. Here's why: I was wandering around my local Sam's Club recently, and "Hey!", I found a couple of copies of Tomb Raider II. The holidays being over, and all the gifts bought and given, I negotiated with the wife and now I'm the proud owner of my own copy of Tomb Raider II. This means that I'll be putting in more work on my guide and more
accuracy and detail than before. However, I will have to start over, so it will take a little time to get to where I was before. Thanks for your patience. (read old news...)
