Coastal Village
Items: 34
Kills: 26
The Coastal Village has a lot of twists and turns, but all in all, it's a pretty short level. Here are a few hints for the tricky parts.
All Roads Lead to Doom
There are several places in this level in which you can choose a different path. Don't worry, this level is very flexible. All roads will lead to the end of the level. Not only can you reach the end of the level through multiple paths, you only need to collect three of four secrets, so any path you choose, you should be able to complete the level with sufficient secrets to get to the bonus level.
Beached
When you get to the beach, you will encounter your first decision. Enter the hut or slide down the slope. If you didn't find the smuggler's key in the lagoon, then you don't have much choice. The trapdoor in the hut is a longer path, but has it's own interesting features.
Caving In
The caves aren't too hard to figure out if you know what to look for. Be aware that you can grab and swing from the vines that grow on the underside of rock ledges. After reaching the ledge where the first native was, you need to take a leap of blind faith that will slide you to the next part of the cave. The second native isn't hard to deal with, but in order to continue, you need to get to the ledge he's standing on and take a "run of faith" off the end of the ledge. From there you're just a shimmy, jump, and grab away from the exit.
Temple of Doom
If you haven't caught onto the movie references, then you'll truly be puzzled when you get to the temple. "Only the penitent man will be allowed to proceed". If you didn't watch that movie, you'll have to figure it out the hard way. In the room beyond, Lara looks up at the light that's coming in through the window in the ceiling. There's a reason she's doing that. It's because if you cross into the path of the light, you will close off your options. There's a way to close the blinds.
Water Park
Let's assume that you slipped and went over the falls. This will be the long path around, but it's got a few extra pickups and kills, so don't worry. From here you can head all the way back to where you would end up if you had slid down that first slope at the beach. No matter what you do, you'll need to backtrack a little to recover all three serpent stones. The there is one nearby and one in the trees as you backtrack. From there you can see where the third one is.
Village People
There are two parts of the village separated by a pit of spikes. You'll need to make your way back and forth between the two parts, so you need to find a way to raise the wooden platform so you can cross it.
Treehouses
If you've managed to get to the second part of the village, then your next order of business is climbing up the ladder into the tree house on the left. The way to open the trapdoor underneath the tree house is in this part of the village.
Getting Warmer
Once inside the tree house, its a not-quite-straightforward matter of getting to the wooden ledge to the left of the tree house and into the tunnel. You can see there's stuff beyond the flames, so you need to raise that wooden platform in the middle to help you get across. So if you can't go down that direction, maybe you should try the other.
Or Would You Rather Be...
Running around on the rooftops can be fun unless you impale yourself on those spikes. If you can't go through, perhaps you ought to try going over.
Red Hot
Eventually you will find the button that raises the wooden platform over the flames. Not far now. A button, a couple of deadly blades, and soon you'll have access to a trapdoor in the pool at the base of the waterfalls.
