Area 51
Items: 40
Kills: 39
An intruder is present in Area 51. Security has been alerted. Oh, that intruder would be you! Sorry, they'll be on the lookout for you now.
Sights to See
Area 51, located in the Groom Lake dry lake bed, is a secret military facility in the heart of the Nellis Air Force Base. Area 51 is a 6 by 10 mile block of land, at the center of which is a large air base that the United States government will not discuss.

This site was selected in the 1950's for testing of the U-2 spyplane due to its remoteness, proximity to existing facilities, and presence of the dry lake bed landings. Area 51, also known as "Groom Lake" or "the Ranch", has been a traditional testing ground for black budget aircraft before they are publicly acknowledged.

The facility is heavily guarded and security is extremely tight. Besides highly trained military personnel, the facilities are guarded by lasers and security guns and carefully monitored by security cameras. Along with sophisticated security, Area 51 is equipped with sophisticated computers as well.

All this security is to protect sensitive projects that take place inside. There has been little information available in terms of what projects are currently active within the research center at Area 51. Rumors about these projects include the development of advanced long range missiles, extremely small orbital rockets, and the alleged US Governmental cover up of the UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico.
Security Forces
Security is maintained at Area 51 through the use of highly trained elite snipers and standard military police. To supplement the snipers, guard dogs and security guns are used.
Souvenirs
In Area 51, you will need to acquire two code clearance CDROMS, a hanger access pass key, and the launch code. Your objective is to locate the second of the meteorite artifacts. While in Area 51, be sure to get the MP5 submachine gun and the shotgun.
Hidden Treasures
There are three secrets in Area 51. The first will become unavailable if the sniper that is near by it successfully reaches and activates an alarm when you approach. The second secret will be hidden behind a panel that you can shoot out, and the final secret will be in plain sight. Your only difficulty is finding the entrance to it.
Hazards
There are no extremely deadly hazards in this level except for a electric subway that runs beneath the facilities. Standing on the tracks or other electrified surfaces will cause immediate electrocution. The snipers are tough enemies, but still manageable. There are lots of laser traps that are on little rotating gantries that slide up and down a room. Just figure out the flaw of the trap before moving in, and you should be able to figure out how to get past those traps. These laser traps only inflict damage, but keep in mind the properties of the different fixed lasers. Green laser beams set off alarms or activate security guns. Yellow lasers will inflict damage when you cross their beams. Contact with a red laser will result in instant death.

Footnotes:
  1. At this point in the game you can choose whether to go to the South Pacific or London next, the Traveler's Guide, for somewhat arbitrary reasons (we wanted to save London for last because it seemed to be the "coolest levels"), has chosen to list the South Pacific levels next in numerical order. However, there is no reason why you couldn't go to the London levels next so for this reason, we have included the links to those levels of the game as well.

  2. We realize that it is possible that you may have already completed both the South Pacific and London levels at this point, therefore we include the Antarctica links here as well. Use these links only if you have completed Nevada, South Pacific, and the London levels.
