Shakespeare Cliff |
Items: 39 |
Kills: 30 |
| Your visit to Shakespeare Cliff can be confusing if you're not clear on the goals. Here are tips to keep you moving. | |||
Inside Track
Your first priority is to get inside the building. This will only involve dealing with the one guard stationed outside, finding the lever beside the door, and entering. Then, you just have to deal with a few workers wandering around inside.
Dead End?
Not a chance. After sufficient exploration, you'll encounter some huge ventillation fans that appear impassable and some locked doors. Well, it is possible to continue. In the control room, opposite the computers, you can find a couple of vent panels that you can shoot out.
Getting the Shaft
After a few hot moments you'll come to a large shaft. If you blindly jump in, you will find that the shaft drops you into a pool of deadly goo. Careful examination of the walls of the shaft from above will reveal that there is a ladder that goes down one section of the shaft. A simple, but carefully placed, backflip will slide you down to the ladder.
Drilling Down
As soon as Lara sets foot onto the shelf at the rim of the shaft, two huge drills will begin to travel down the shaft. That, obviously, imples that you have to get down the ladder in a hurry. Part way down you will find a vent blowing flames just below the ladder. This is your cue to get off the ladder. Conveniently, there is a ledge nearby. Just watch out, because there's another vent blowing flames on that ledge. It would probably behoove you to hang out and wait for the drills to past before proceeding.
A Bit Drafty
Quite a draft blowing through these huge vents, huh? There's two levers you'll need to throw. One opens a trapdoor below. The other shuts off the fans to allow you to safely walk past the fans. The first is easy enough to locate after you take a running jump across the shaft. The other will require a little looking around. Isn't that crawlspace just calling out to invite you inside?
Quite a Fan
With the fans disabled, Lara will be able to reach the trapdoor that she opened earlier. A careful drop down through the trapdoor will put Lara in a room full of walkways and support structures. Have Lara make her way to the floor, being careful to avoid the flaming barrels, and then a running jump across the shaft will take Lara to a new area.
Subway Series
From the other chamber adjacent to the shaft, Lara can follow a walkway, down a tunnel, to a large tunnel with subway tracks. Of course you know that crossing the tracks will invariably bring on a train, so a jump over the tracks and a jump to the small ledge with the switch will keep you out of harms way.
Hot Wheels
Beyond the door on the far side of the train tunnel, you'll find the quad bike. Now for a little fun on wheels. Of course, there will be the obligatory jump back over the train tracks. Then a couple of goo-filled pits, and then the site of the huge explosion that the UK papers have reported about.
Joyride
From cursory observation, I think it's possible to get to the bottom of the blast crater on foot, but I didn't try it. It would seem, based on first impressions, that getting down on foot may actually be easier, but because we thought it was fun and challenging to ride down on the bike, we'll be providing tips on taking the quad-bike down into the cavern.
First Crossing
The first thing to do is to cross the deep blast crater. This will involve jumping the bike onto the train, which will involve a small ramp just to the right of the train. Then accelerating the bike down the length of the train, over the crater, and to the ledge opposite. A little careful driving wil get you into the caved-in tunnel on the opposite side. Follow the path down and eventually you'll jump a second train, perpendicular to the first.
Slippery Slopes
From the ledge at the corner of the crater, your first challenge will be to drive the bike around the crater along the steep slopes that run all the way around. You'll encounter a couple of bad guys along the way, but eventaully you'll get to a flat ledge and an opening that leads to a chamber with a pit. Your next destination will involve droppign the bike into the pit.
More Crossings
Another jump across the crater will bring you to another ledge and another enemy. There is a switch on the ledge that opens a pair of large doors on the opposite side of the crater. Be sure to grab the drill activator card before leaving this area. One more jump and you're done with the quad-bike.
More Machinations
A little exploration will bring you to another huge machine. Locate a lever on the machine to bring it on-line and open a trapdoor that will lead to the machine's control room, where you can fully activate the machine with the activator card you're carrying.
Into the Chunnel
The machine will turn a large drill bit and open a hole in the floor of the cavern. Down the hole and after dealing with a couple more rats and a lever, you're ready to enter the Chunnel.
