Furnace of the Gods
Items: 64
Kills: 41
The Furnace of the Gods is a fairly straightforward level. You really shouldn't need many hints. Here are a few just so you won't say we don't care.
Hard Pressed
Pretty quickly after the beginning of this level you will find that this level is quite different from the last. There are far fewer tough enemies, but plenty of traps to evade instead. Cross the region of break away tiles, and you'll find two spiked walls closing in. You can't turn back, you can stay there. So get moving down the passage. You'll come to a cage. To find safety, just give it a push.
Primary Objective
In the next cavern you will find the objective of this adventure. Go ahead. Take it. You know you want to. Now what? Picking up the mask, not only reanimates the dead. It also opened a door. Go look for it.
Call the Exterminators
The next section may seem to be more of a job for an exterminator than an adventurer, like yourself. Nonetheless, get all the rats or you will find yourself humbled by vermin. The exit is a couple of pushes and a climb away. Here's something to keep in mind. See those skeletons on the ground. Something must have killed the person who those bones belong to. Watch your step.
Homecoming
Back in the large cavern. Don't drop to the floor without pulling that lever. It opens the gates at the back of the cavern. From there, another switch, and another gate. You know what to do. In the hallway beyond are some bad guys. Now you know why you reanimated those warriors.
Goldfinger
You can see the pool of gold through the window but are you having difficulty getting to it? There's an opening nearby. Just climb up to it. Once there, you need to make your way to the ledge underneath the flowing waterfall of gold and then around the outer ledge, then it's a matter of getting upstream.
Rock Climbing
Negotiating the rocks up the stream can be difficult. Here's a few landmark hints. Climb as high as you can up the rocks to the right of the stream of molten gold, then turn around. You need to cross over the molten gold using the ledges that stick out from the ceiling. Cross all the way over, and then make your way to the first rock column that sticks out of the middle of the gold and cross back over to the other side of the river of molten gold. From there a little more climbing and you'll find the room with the rolling blade.
River Crossing
Getting past the rolling blade is fairly straightforward. Use the wide alcove to duck in to wait for the blade to roll past. You'll find another stream of molten gold ahead. Funny thing is that the gold must bubble out of the ground since it flows "down" in three different directions from there. Anyhow, head to the right and just take some careful jumps from rock to rock to cross the river of molten gold.
Bearly Reach
From the last rock you can target the polar bear above with the M-16. Otherwise it's a fairly nasty up-close encounter. A running jump will land you safely in the water. A little swimming will get you up to the ledge with the bear. From there, there's a cavern with fast flowing water that will take you downstream to a reservoir. Surface through the small hole in the ceiling.
Hanging Around
That ladder on the wall may seem useless until you realize it's not for climb up, but for climbing sideways. There's a boulder trap in the next room that you can avoid if you like. From there it's on to the village floating in a lake of molten gold. To open the gates at the top of the stairs, you need a gold nugget. There happens to be one right in the middle of the molten gold. What is a person to do? If only there was some way to flood this hot gold with all that cold water in the reservoir next door. Sure there is. Go look for the switches.
Intimidation
the next room just looks intimidating. Those walls are not a problem so long as you're not standing in front of them as they're moving. You want to climb up to the top of this gold producing volcano. At the top it's time to climb into the belly of the beast.
Final Words
So close, but we can't let you get away that easily, can we? At the bottom of the ladder you're probably wondering what to do with all those break away tiles. Well, since you can't see it from where you're standing, we'll tell you: There is a solid rock ledge behind you on the left. If you move quickly enough, you can probably make it. From there a hop down to the non-gold drain below. Don't land in the hole, because you can't survive the fall. Instead, land somewhere on the funnel.
