| The hidden cost of stowing away as your method of travel is the risk of ending up at a less than desirable destination. On a little isle off the coast of Ireland, you'll find the Gallows Tree. | |||
Sights to See |
Ireland is called the Emerald Isle for its endlessly rolling green
hills. Even though the countryside is beautiful, the weather is not
always clement, but it is the perpetual dampness that maintains the
green of the landsacape. Ireland, itself, is an island in the Atlantic Ocean and is about eighty kilometres west of Britain across the Irish Sea. The southern part of the island is the Republic of Ireland, an independant country, while North Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom. It is this division that results in most of the unrest in this otherwise beautiful place. Much of Ireland's elevated ground is close to the coast. The centre of the island of Ireland is composed of flat farmland or raised bogs, while almost the entire Atlantic seaboard, from Cork to Donegal, is a bulwark of clifs, hills and moutains with very few safe anchorages. Connussie is one small town that provides such a harbour. Your current lodgings are in the little village known as Gavold. Just off the coast of this little village is a small rocky island. Few people inhabit these small rocky islands, because of the extremely rough sea and raw cold climate. The island that you now find yourself is one of those little rocky islands. There are signs that there had once been inhabitants on this little island, but there certainly aren't any people here now. All sorts of conflicting reports of strange occurrences and hauntings have circulated around the locals on the main-land. There is one legend about this island that is consistent, which is the existence of an old tree on which the inhabitants of the island hung all their lawbreakers. |

Local Fauna |
As you explore the island, you will encounter colonies of rats and bats. You can't shoot them so you need to just keep moving.
Local Spirits |
The only person you'll encounter is Father Patrick, which you followed over from the main land. You may encounter a few little imps as you explore the Gallows Tree. You are not packing any heat, so your only course of action is to try to get away from them.
Souvenirs
|
Find the broken head of a pitchfork and a rubber tube to and you'll have the fixings for a nice slingshot. You must also pick up a wooden torch to ignite the roots of the World Tree in order to obtain the item that the rotting corpse sends you after. In order to safely escape, you'll need the iron clapper from one of the bells of the bell tower.
Hidden Treasures |
The first secret can be seen, but will require you to take a side trip to obtain it. The second secret can be easily missed if you're not extremely thorough in your explorations of the area surrounding the Gallows Tree. The third secret is easy enough to find if you're thorough.
Hazards |
There aren't that many hazards. There are a few places where a long fall will end your life. All in all, if you're careful you should do just fine.
