It's a cold, dark, rainy, day. With the memorial service for Lara
Croft over, her old friends retire to the Croft Mansion1.(skip down to
walkthrough) As they sadly collect their thoughts, they reminisce about Lara's past adventures... Meanwhile... Hundreds of miles away, Werner Von Croy coordinates the frantic dig - searching for answers buried deep beneath the Egyptian desert... The foot falls of three men can be heard echoing through the halls of the Croft Manor. Only a few lights in the manor have been lit, and the rest of the manor is immersed in darkness. The only eyes that witness the three men's arrival are the stuffed hunting trophies that are mounted above the second floor landing. Winston, Lara's butler and oldest friend, leads the other two men into the study. Flashes of lightning briefly strobe the home in bright white light, as the Winston steps out of the foyer into a hallway that leads to the study. "To the study, gentlemen, where we may pontificate over the day's disheartening events," Winston tells the other two men. Winston swings open the door to the study and steps inside. "Indeed, my friend," Jean-Yves concurs. "Even the heaven's cry out," he adds. Inside the study, he and Father Dunstan take seats that flank the fireplace. Winston steps through a side door to the kitchen to prepare some tea for his guests. Jean-Yves reaches forward and takes an unusual stone with a crystal protruding from one end from the table before him. He holds it up to allow it's yellow crystal to catch the light of the fire. "Ah, the Philosopher's Stone2. One of Lara's early conquests," Winston announces, as he returns from the kitchen with a tray of tea and crumpets. "And one of her most challenging pursuits, if my memory serves me," He quickly adds. He places the tray on the table. "And Rome still bears the scars of that little episode," Father Dunstan contributes. "Ah, she was never one for diplomacy, Lara," Jean-Yves chuckles. "But she certainly knew how to paint the town red." Jean-Yves nods around the table to see Winston and Father Dunstan in agreement. Their conversation brings them back to the time Lara was in Rome, Italy. Their memories begin with an evening at the opera. On stage, a large soprano in a deep red dress is singing Mozart's "Voi che Sapete", from "Le Nozze di Figaro3". Lara Croft watches contentedly through opera glasses from a balcony box. Lara is dressed in a stunning strapless evening dress. It's cut low in front and cut high up her dominant leg. However, she's wearing quite sensible flats rather than high-heels. Lara's appreciation of the aria is interrupted when a blonde man dressed in a tuxedo steps noisily into the box through the curtains behind Lara. He proclaims with a southern drawl, "Well g'all darn! Ain't she just a picture?" He saunters up beside Lara and gives her shoulder a hard pat. "Ah, the charming Mr. Larson," Lara coos, lowering her opera glasses and turning around. "Has Pierre let you off the leash?" She asks so sweetly and so sarcastically. Before Larson can formulate a come-back, Lara asks, "Talking of which, where is our learned friend?" "Ah, He's around," Larson tells her with a buck-toothed smile. "You got the cash?" He snaps quickly? "I've got the cash," Lara replies. "But I don't deal with the monkey," she insists. Larson, who has taken the seat beside her, smiles, "Hu-hm, well that ain't polite for a lady. Even if the monkey has the Mercury Stone?" Larson asks smugly. Larson reaches into his inside suit pocket and produces a gray rock with a large yellowish crystal protruding from one side. The crystal glows and hums slightly as Larson holds it out for Lara to see. Lara reaches down beside her right leg and produces a metal attaché case and holds it out for Larson to see. "Lucky I'm in a generous mood," Lara replies. Just then, her words are interrupted by the click-clack of a gun, having its first round chambered. She turns to see a second man has joined the party and is pointing a gun at her face. "Ah crawled out from under your rock, I see," Lara tells the second man. The second man is quite pale with a goatee and is also wearing a tuxedo, "No need for unpleasantries, Miss Croft," Pierre cuts in. He reaches forward and takes the metal case from Lara's hands and he and Larson both back out of the balcony box, he tells her, "I'm afraid I must, once again, relieve you of your burden." He tosses the metal case to Larson. Lara smiles sweetly and shrugs, "Easy come - easy go." Lara lays one hand on the balcony's rail rapping her fingers on the wooden rail a couple of times, and extends her other gloved hand out to Pierre. Pierre looks at her extended hand, failing to notice that the other hand has closed to form a fist. Pierre smugly leans down to give her knuckles a tender kiss, when she brings her closed fist around, punching Pierre squarely in the bridge of his nose. "Oh!" Pierre stumbles backwards, dropping his gun. Larson acts quickly. He hands the case back to Pierre and both men continue backing up, now in a defensive stance. Lara herself is out of her seat and is also rapidly closing the distance between herself and Larson. It's not all sugar and sweetness anymore. Lara's got a scowl on her face that should make any man think twice. Larson, unfortunately didn't hand the Mercury Stone to Pierre as well, holds out the stone in front of him, trying to keep both hands ready to defend himself. When Lara is within range, she takes a spinning back-roundhouse kick across Larson's head. He lets out an enormous, "Oof!" and the Mercury Stone shoots out of his hands, straight up into the air. Lara turns around takes a forward handspring to flip up onto the balcony rail. She reaches up and catches the Mercury Stone, and tucks it into her garter. She turns and takes a leap off of the balcony rail, grabbing onto the stage curtain. All heads turn from the soprano to Lara dangling from the edge of the curtain. The opera patrons let out a collective, "Aaah!" at the sight. The curtain drops to the stage floor, bringing Lara down with it. Lara spins around to face the now ecstatic crowd, which assumes this to be some stunt to liven up the performance. They rise and give her a standing ovation. One of the spotlights moves from the soprano to Lara, and she curtsies graciously for the crowd as they toss red roses onto the stage to her. The moment of fanfare ends when Pierre fires five shots at Lara from the balcony box. The crowd screams, as Lara quickly flees. Exit, stage right. Pierre and Larson quickly exit the box and run down the stairs. Larson curses, "It ain't over until the fat lady sings." Not realizing the irony in his own statement. In an alley behind the opera house, a hapless motorcycle courier is banging on a door leading to the back stage making an attempt to deliver a package. As he lethargically knocks on the door he looks at two posters for Casablanca and Rebecca. Without warning, Lara bursts through the door, knocking the courier aside. Lara scans left and right, and spots the courier's motor scooter. She runs forward, leap-frogs over the plastic crate strapped on the cargo rack, and lands in the saddle of the bike. She hits the electric starter button, and zips down the cobblestone alley. The stunned courier has no idea what just happened, but turns to see the bright headlights of a car bearing down on him. He leaps aside to just barely avoid getting run down by the car. It is apparent that Larson and Pierre have stolen a taxicab, and Larson is now behind the wheel. The speed down the narrow alley and close in on Lara and manage to tap the back of her motor scooter twice. Lara takes a quick look back and the accelerates the little scooter harder. "Bucking bronco, baby!" Larson calls out, as he attempts to continue to cause Lara's scooter to buck like a wild horse. Lara spots an intersecting alley, weaves a moment and takes a sharp high-speed turn into the next alley. Having overshot the intersection, Larson mashes down the brakes, and backs up the car and then puts it in forward again to make the turn into the alley and continue his pursuit. Lara finds that this alley ends at a closed steel gate. There is plenty of space below the bottom of the steel gate, but not enough for a person riding upright on a motor-scooter. As she nears the gate, she turns and leans hard to one side, causing the scooter to be thrown sideways. She leaps off the scooter, which is sliding forward on its side, and tumbles forward on the granite curb of the alley. Both she and scooter pass beneath the steel gate. She rolls to her feet, her dress intact and not a hair out of place, while the scooter slides to a stop beside her. Larson spots the gate and tells Pierre, "We ain't gonna make that gap, boss." "We'll make it," Pierre insists. "Ain't gonna," Larson counters. "We'll make it!" As the taxi-cab continues to race toward the gate, Lara stands up, turns and walks forward to the gate. She places her two hands on the bars of the gate, feeling the security they have provided for the decades it has stood in that alley. She smiles and takes a few steps back and stands there with her hands on her hips. The top of the cabin of the taxicab crashes into the gate, blowing apart the windshield, while allowing the front end of the taxicab to pass underneath the gate. It rushes forward, but stops about a foot short of where Lara is standing, and is thrown back by the gate. "What did I tell you?" a very battered and bruised Larson demands rhetorically. "Mon Dieu!" Pierre curses, slamming his two fists down onto the dashboard. He isn't in much better condition than Larson. Lara looks at the two thugs with a sort of wonder in her eyes. She smiles, takes a few steps backwards and blows them a kiss. She turns and walks off into the night. Leaving the two aching and dazed men sitting in the taxi. Lara returns to her hotel and looks over the Mercury stone in her possession4. She decides on her strategy to look for the Philosopher's Stone the next day and goes to sleep. In the morning, she dons her traditional adventuring garb, straps on her hip holsters and checks her ammo, knowing full well that she will run into Pierre and Larson later this day. To avoid being conspicuous, Lara exits out the side door of her hotel into a side alley with a cobblestone pathway and hears the crickets chirping.(follow plot) |
|||
|
At the beginning of this level, Lara finds herself in a narrow alley
beside her hotel. Ahead is a large archway. Use the forward direction
key to RUN FORWARD towards the archway. Just before the archway, Lara
will encounter a doorway to her left with a sign above it that reads
"Opera Backstage." If Lara wants to take some extra time for a side-trip to explore the back of the opera house, use the left direction button to have Lara TURN LEFT and run through the doorway. Once inside, use the look button combined with the direction keys to have Lara LOOK UP, LOOK DOWN, LOOK RIGHT and LOOK LEFT to get an idea of her surroundings. Run forward until Lara is to the right of a crate. Run up to it and Lara will give her first set of instructions. |
|||
Lara:
|
To climb onto this crate, stand next to the crate, push forward and then action.
|
Turn left, run right up to the crate and press the action button to
have Lara VAULT UP onto the crate. Run forward and vault up once again
onto a metal box held up by a forklift. Turn left and vault up one
last time onto the cement ledge. Turn left and run forward towards a grating on the far side of the ledge. The camera angle will change to highlight another grating to Lara's left. Lara will provide instructions for how to leap the gap, but not how to walk. |
|||
Lara:
|
To leap this short distance, walk to the edge. Now press forward and jump together.
|
Turn left to face the gap. Press down the walk and forward direction
keys to WALK FORWARD towards the edge of the gap. Use the walk button
with the right and left direction keys to SIDESTEP RIGHT or SIDESTEP
LEFT if necessary to line up the jump. Lara will not fall off the
edge if she is walking. Now use the jump button followed quickly by the forward button to perform a STANDING JUMP over the gap. Run forward and to the right of the "Attention" sign into a short hallway. Lara will emerge from the hallway into an area of the opera house backstage where a backdrop for a set is sitting half-built. Lara will now give instructions on how to take a running jump. |
|||
Lara:
|
Now let's try a longer one. Walk to the edge, then tap back once. Now press forward and jump together.
|
WALK FORWARD to the edge and HOP BACK, by tapping the back direction
key. Then run forward and press jump without releasing the forward
direction key to execute a RUNNING JUMP over the gap. Lara will run
forward, and take the jump only when she reaches the edge of the
platform. Once on the other side, turn right to enter a tunnel that curves around and leads to the next room. Lara will encounter another large gap. Lara will provide instructions for how to clear the longest distance Lara is capable of jumping. |
|||
Lara:
|
And now for the big jump. Walk to the edge, then tap back once. Now press forward and jump together. When in mid-air, hold action to grab onto the ledge.
|
WALK FORWARD to the edge and HOP BACK. Run forward and do a RUNNING
JUMP over the gap. While in the air, press the action button to GRAB
the ledge and then PULL UP to the other side. If Lara misses the jump
and lands on the crate below, she must run out a tunnel on the main
floor, through the room with the half-finished set, and finally back
to the room with the forklift to climb back up to the ledge. If Lara successfully completes the jump, continue to the left and run around the ledge until she reaches another grating on the floor. |
|||
Lara:
|
To perform a sideways somersault, press left and jump.
| Press the jump button quickly followed by the left direction button to have Lara do a LEFT SIDE JUMP. Then run forward through a door way back to the room with the half-built set. The camera angle will change to highlight some scaffolding above Lara. | |||
Lara:
|
To monkey swing, jump straight up at the bars and press and hold action. Then push forward.
| JUMP STRAIGHT UP and GRAB the scaffolding above. While keeping the action key held down, press forward to MONKEY SWING forward until Lara can safely drop onto the concrete ledge on the other side. Turn right and run forward towards a ladder on the right side of the door. | |||
Lara:
|
For me to climb this wall, stand next to it and press forward and action together. Keep hold of action and push up to climb the wall. To climb around corners, just keep pushing in the desired direction.
| CLIMB UP the wall until Lara can go no further. Then press the right direction button to have Lara shift to the right around the corner of the wall. Then let go of the action button to have Lara drop onto the yellow control room. | |||
Lara:
|
For me to crawl, hold down crouch, and now push forward.
|
Before following her instructions, turn left and walk forward to the
corner of the yellow ledge. Aim Lara at the scaffolding that spans
the room, and take a recently learned standing jump to the
scaffolding. Turn left, and run part way down the scaffolding and
pick up the canister of flares (1). Continue forward until Lara reaches the low alcove. The alcove is too low to walk into, so use the instructions that Lara gave most recently. Press the crouch button to have Lara CROUCH DOWN. While holding down the crouch button, press forward to CRAWL FORWARD into the alcove. Once again, position Lara over the large Medi Pack (2) and press action to pick it up. Back out of the alcove and press the reverse key to REVERSE ROLL. Lara will dive onto one shoulder and come up facing the other way. Walk forward, up the sloping part of the scaffolding, until Lara reaches the flat upper part of the scaffolding. To Lara's left should be another scaffolding. Use another of Lara's recently described moves to side flip to the left and land on the tower scaffolding. Pick up a small Medi Pack (3), and take a side flip to the right, back onto the long scaffolding. Walk forward, to the other end of the scaffolding and angle Lara to the right. Take a standing jump back to the top of the yellow control room and turn left. Walk forward to the crawlspace and hold down the crouch button to have Lara CROUCH DOWN. While holding down the crouch button, press forward to CRAWL FORWARD into the opening. The crawl button may be released once Lara is in the opening. Once Lara reaches the end of the crawlspace, have her back up towards the ledge on the left. Press the backwards direction button together with the action button to have Lara gently lower herself down to do SAFETY DROP to the ledge below. Lara will find herself back in the room with the forklift below. Run forward towards a metal door and turn left to face a switch. |
|||
Lara:
|
To use the lever switch, stand next to the switch and press action.
|
Press the action button to pull down the switch that opens the metal
door and turn right. Once Lara runs through the opening, the metal
door will slam shut behind her. Turn right and run down the
stairs. Lara will run past a forklift that is fenced in and is
inaccessible. To her left is also a large cement structure which is a
water tank. Ahead is another flight of stairs going down, but do not
bother going down there, because it just ends at a fence that blocks
access to another room. Run forward to the left of the stairs to an area with some crates. Vault up onto the metal crate and turn left to face the cement water tank. Walk forward to the edge of the metal crate and do a STANDING JUMP and GRAB to PULL UP onto the cement ledge ahead. |
|||
Lara:
|
To swim, jump into the water, use action to swim forward, and the directions to steer.
|
This is a good time for Lara to practice a SWAN DIVE into the pool by
pressing the walk button, followed by the jump and forward
buttons. After entering the water, use the jump button to SWIM
FORWARD. Use the left and right direction keys to maneuver around the
pool. Press the REVERSE key to practice doing a quick flip-turn. To
the right of where Lara dropped into the water is an underwater
tunnel. Swim forward and follow the tunnel around until Lara surfaces
in another room. |
|||
Lara:
|
To climb out, swim to the edge and press action.
|
While still treading water, press forward to move across the surface
of the water. However, do not climb out of the water yet. Note that by
holding down the walk button and left and right direction keys, Lara
can do a LEFT SIDESTROKE and RIGHT SIDESTROKE maneuver. Use the jump key to have Lara dive back into the water and swim towards an opening at the bottom of the pool. Follow the winding tunnel until Lara surfaces in another small room. Now move forward towards the ledge and press action to climb out of the water. In this small room, Lara can pick up a large Medi Pack (4), shotgun normal ammo (5), and revolver ammo (6). Drop back into the water and swim through the tunnel. Pull up out of the water on the ledge diagonally opposite where Lara first entered this room. Run forward and turn right and Lara will find herself on a ledge across from the cement water tank. Turn left to go through a small doorway to enter a dark room with a rope running across the middle of it. |
|||
Lara:
|
To walk the tightrope, walk up to the rope and press action. Push forward. If you unbalance, push in the opposite direction to correct.
|
WALK FORWARD up to the rope and press action to have Lara step out
onto the rope. Press forward to have Lara carefully move forward
across the rope. If Lara loses her balance in one direction, press the
opposite direction key to have Lara keep her balance. At this point, allow Lara to purposely fall off the rope in order to explore the area below. She will sustain insignificant damage when she lands on the floor below. Run forward between the crates to a storeroom with four sets of shelves. Turn left and press action to search a tall shelf where Lara will find a canister of flares (7). Perform a reverse roll and head towards another tall shelf across from the first one. This shelf holds no items for Lara. |
|||
SECRET #1
|
Angle Lara to the left and run towards a low shelf in the
corner. Position Lara in front of the shelf and press action to have
Lara grip the shelf, then press the forward direction button to have
Lara push the shelf forward twice. Turn left to enter a tunnel that leads to a room with a large Roman coin. In the corner of this room is a pair of Uzi ammo (8) clips. Turn right and search a tall shelf that contains SECRET #1, a gold rose (9). Exit this room back to the storeroom which had the four shelves. |
||
|
Head to the low shelving unit in the far left hand corner of the room
and position Lara in front of it. Press the action button combined
with the up direction button to have Lara push the shelves forward
once. This will reveal a box of revolver ammo (10) that Lara can pick up from the
floor. Reverse roll to exit this small alcove and run forward out of
the storeroom back to the room with the tightrope. Run forward and jump up onto the concrete ledge ahead. Head to the right of the rope where there is a wooden crate and vault up onto it. Turn left and vault up onto the second level of this room and return to the beginning of the tightrope. Once Lara successfully crosses the rope, run forward through the doorway on the other side of the room to enter a dark room with two sets of shelves. This is a good area to have Lara LIGHT A FLARE to illuminate the room, but it is not absolutely necessary. Run up to the shelves on the left and press action to have Lara search through the shelves. Nothing will be found here. Run up to the shelves on the right wall and Lara will find a small Medi Pack (11). Run forward out of the room and down the slope and a couple steps. Turn left at the end of the steps to find a lever switch to Lara's right. Pull the switch to open the metal door ahead and Lara will find herself once again standing over the room she originally entered with the forklift. Press forward to drop down to the floor. Run around the forklift and out the doorway to the cobblestone alleyway that Lara originally started from. |
|||
Streets of Rome
|
Turn left to run under the archway and Lara will find herself at an
intersection of a couple of different alleys. The two passages ahead
and to the left both eventually lead to the courtyard that Lara can
see ahead, but for now, turn right and draw pistols. Run forward
until Lara enters the courtyard ahead, which has a fountain. A Doberman (1) will emerge from behind the fountain and attack. Open fire on the Doberman, taking a backflips to avoid it as necessary. After it falls, run forward and return to the courtyard. Turn right and run down the alley that is to the right of the red and white striped awning. Follow the alley until it turns to the left and run forward until Lara comes to a carving of a man's face. Reach into the mouth of the carving to raise a metal gate in another alley. Reverse roll, and follow the alley as it bends to the right, back to the courtyard with the fountain. Turn left and run back down the alley to the intersection of the wider street. Turn right and run forward until Lara enters a courtyard with a strange dark set of paver stones at the right side of the courtyard. Run forward past the first opening on the left and turn left when Lara comes to a set of stairs that lead down to another carved face. Run forward, underneath the hanging vegetation and down the steps, until Lara comes to the carved face. When Lara reaches into the mouth of this carved face, two things will happen. First, the section of dark pavers in the courtyard behind Lara will rise up and become a platform, and second, a flock of bats will attack. Reach into the carving to manipulate the switch inside, and immediately take a hop backwards, and start back flipping. Lara's third backflip will land her on the newly raised block. Lara's fourth backflip will land her on the ledge above the block. Take one more backflip, and jump forward and backwards until the flock of bats disperses. After the bats have dispersed, walk forward to the edge of the platform so that Lara is standing beneath the arch on the left. Angle Lara to the left and locate the ledge ahead. Angle Lara to the left and take a running jump to the ledge ahead to pick up a small Medi Pack (12). Turn around and walk forward and angle Lara to the left. Walk to the middle of the ledge and aim Lara for the closest arch and take a standing jump back to the ledge. If Lara falls, she can try to grab the ledge, or she will have to climb back up. Run forward and turn right to enter the passage. Follow the passage as it winds to the left, and then spirals upwards to the right three times. Lara will find herself in someone's living room. Walk forward and turn left to step out onto the balcony. Run forward, across the balcony, and into the opening of the adjacent building. Drop into the hallway ahead and angle Lara to the right. Draw pistols and shoot out the window ahead. Step forward and pick up a box of revolver ammo (13). Turn around, hop backwards, and grab onto the window's sill. This will alert a Doberman (2). Pull up, turn around, draw pistols and kill the dog below. Turn around and walk forward back through the broken window. Turn right and follow the hallway as it bends to the right. Draw pistols and shoot out the window on the right. Step through the recently broken window and pick up the small Medi Pack (14). Take a hop backwards, back to the stairs, and turn left. Run down the stairs and follow them as they turn to the right. Lara will emerge in the courtyard below. Turn right and run forward to the large blue double doors. Push them open, and immediately backflip away while drawing pistols. Open fire on a Doberman (3) that will lunge out from the room behind the doors. When the dog is dead, enter the room and pick up a large Medi Pack (15). Take a hop backwards and turn right. Climb up onto the wooden crate and pick up a box of shotgun wideshot ammo (16). Hop backwards and drop back to the ground. Turn right and run back into the courtyard. Run across the courtyard and step through the archway ahead. Turn left, and follow the alley to a switch. Throw the switch to open a gate that will give access to an alley that leads back to the courtyard with the fountain6. Reverse roll and run back down the alley and turn right to return to the courtyard. Turn right and return to the foot of the stairs. Run up the stairs and follow them as they turn to the left. Halfway up the stairs, turn right, draw pistols and shoot out the windows. Vault up into the window and walk forward to the edge of the window sill. Take a standing jump over the alley into the adjacent building. |
||
Golden Key 1
|
Step forward and turn left when Lara reaches the adjacent hallway.
Follow the hallway as it winds upward and around to the right twice.
Vault up onto a ledge and run forward. Turn right at the other end of
the ledge and step forward to pick up the first Golden Key (17). Reverse roll, and follow the ledge around to the left and drop to the hallway below. Follow the hallway as it winds down and to the left twice. When Lara steps back into the previous hallway, turn left, and run forward up the hallway. Turn left and run forward to step out onto a balcony. Lara will look down over the courtyard and decide where the key belongs. Turn left and take a standing jump over the low fence to the striped red and white awning below. Pick up a canister of flares (18) and turn right. Walk forward to the edge of the awning and draw pistols. Kill a Doberman (4) that is now running around in the courtyard below before dropping down to the courtyard. Run across the courtyard, around the fountain, to the locked gate. Use the key to open the gate and step inside. Run down the hallway and stop before stepping forward into the courtyard ahead. Draw pistols and turn left. Side flip to the right and Lara will find Larson standing on a ledge above the courtyard. Take a few shots at him and then side flip back to the left to the safety of the hallway. Repeat this a few times until Larson runs off. Turn around and step into the area below the arches and pick up a small Medi Pack (19). Turn and run across the courtyard, past the two palm trees, to the other side of the courtyard, and enter the hallway below the ledge that Larson was standing on earlier. |
||
Garden Key #1
|
Turn left, run forward, and turn right. Run down the ramp into the
storage room below. Turn left as soon as Lara steps into the storage
room and vault up onto the crate. Pick up the Garden Key (20), and hop backwards to drop to the
ground. Turn left, and run forward up the ramp. Turn left and run to the other end of the hallway. Turn left and run up the ramp, following it as it spirals up to the left twice. Draw pistols when Lara reaches the room at the top of the ramp. Run forward and stand with Lara pressed against the wall ahead. Take a side flip to the left and open fire on Larson, who will be shoot at Lara from the ledge on the opposite side of the courtyard. Repeat side flipping right and left, while firing on Larson as Lara flips past the doorway until Larson runs away. When Larson is gone, step through the open doorway and tightrope walk across the courtyard until Lara reaches the opposite ledge. Run through the doorway on the other side, and angle Lara to the left. Run forward and drop to the ground. Turn right, run forward and throw the switch to open the gate to the right7. Reverse roll and run forward to the wider intersecting street. Turn left and run to the end of the street and enter the small square doorway. Turn right inside the next room and follow the hallway forward until it intersects with another hallway that leads off to the left. Turn left and enter the small courtyard ahead to pick up a box of revolver ammo (21). Reverse roll and reenter the hallway that Lara just stepped out of. Turn left and run down the hall. Halfway down this hall there is an entrance to the left that leads to a room with a wooden gate. Ignore this room for now as Lara will return to this room later on. Continue forward to the foot of the stairs. |
||
Revolver
|
Run forward to the top of the stairs to the concrete ledge at the top
of the stairs. Pick up the revolver (22), and reverse roll. Run forward, off of the
concrete patio. Run along the right side of the steps and run forward up onto a concrete ledge. Turn right and push open the blue double doors. Step inside, and Lara will find the room contains four large wine barrels. |
||
LaserSight
|
Immediately turn left and pick up the LaserSight (23). Take a hop backwards, and turn right. Run forward to the back of the wine cellar and turn right. Either combine the lasersight with the revolver to take aim on the large padlock on the wooden door ahead, or draw the pistols and shoot at the lock in the middle of crouching down to shoot open the lock.
Garden Key #2
|
When Lara crosses the threshold of the gate, a swarm of rats will
emerge. Quickly run forward, grab the second Garden Key (24), reverse roll, and exit. Run forward and
turn left to exit the wine cellar. On the way out, take a running
jump over the railing and land on the stairs beyond. Turn right, run
down the hall and turn left when Lara reaches the small room. Run
forward into the street to escape the rats. Run all the way to the other end of the street. Turn left and enter the small square opening which leads to another courtyard. Turn left, and place one of the garden keys in the first receptacle. Take two side flips to the other side of the large gate and place the second garden key into the receptacle to open the gates to the garden. Inside, Lara will find a building decorated with three gargoyle heads. Turn left and run back to the opening that leads to the street. Turn right and run halfway down the street. Turn right once more and enter the garden. Turn left and approach the building. Lara cautiously approaches the building in the middle of the garden and looks up at the three gargoyle heads above the door. They look like the heads of dragons, staring ominously back down at her. Lara replaces the Mercury Stone in the receptacle with the symbol for mercury on it. Just then Lara hears a noise, and spins around with guns drawn. She looks up at the building facing the garden building. Not seeing anyone, Lara holsters her pistols one at a time and mutters, "Rodents, I shouldn't wonder. Big rodents." She turns and begins to walk away. The source of the noise is Larson nearly falling off of the other side of the roof that Lara was just scanning. Pierre quickly grabs Larson's arm, preventing him from taking a header off the other side. Larson gets to his feet draws his gun, and cocks the hammer. He takes aim on Lara, but Pierre raises his arm and knocks Larson's arm skyward just as he fires, saving Lara's life. "What?" Larson inquires furiously. Pierre is furious, "Idiot! Idiot! What does the cowboy hope to achieve with this mindless firing?" Larson is puzzled, "Ain't mindless. Or ain't we trying to kill her anymore then?" "You were kicked in the head by a horse, oui? So the brain doesn't work correctly," Pierre asks sarcastically. Larson asks ingenuously, "How'd you know about that?" Pierre is flabbergasted, "Never mind! Never mind! We wait until she collects the other pieces. In this fashion we have the full prize at no extra effort." Larson is duly impressed, "You are one clever cookie, boss." Pierre is flattered by his companion's complements and smiles, "Comparatively, yes. Come, let's get off this roof and I will buy you a milkshake."(follow plot) Run forward to the wall and turn left. The opening to the right leads to a cistern full of water, but nothing else, so Lara can ignore that opening. Run forward and turn right when Lara reaches the opening in the wall, next to the garden building. A doberman (5) will attack8. Draw pistols and take it out, retreating as necessary. Run down the hallway and follow it as it turns to the right and heads upward. Turn right at the top of the ramp, and run forward into the opening ahead. Lara will realize she is below a large temple with a bell hanging over the entrance. Turn right and run up the next ramp. At the top of the ramp, turn right and run forward onto the lawn in front of the temple. Lara will now be extremely interested in the bell that hangs over the entrance of the temple. Have Lara combine the revolver with the lasersight, if she hasn't already done that. Take aim at the bell above the temple with the lasersight, and shoot it once to ring it. This will open a stone door to the left of the temple. |

SECRET #2
|
Before entering the newly opened stone door, reverse roll and run back
down the short ramp. Turn left and run down the longer ramp and turn
left. Reenter the tunnel and follow it down as it winds to the left
twice more. When Lara has returned to the garden, turn left, run to the front of the building, and turn right. Run across the garden and exit the garden through the garden gate. Turn right and run back down the street. Reenter the small opening at the end of the street until Lara steps into a tiny square courtyard. Turn right and reenter the hallway that she entered earlier. Step forward, and turn left when she reaches.the entrance to the small room that she ignored earlier. Run forward to find the wooden gate that was formerly locked is now open. Draw a weapon and step forward. As soon as Lara enters the room, a Doberman (6) will attack from the right. Open fire while back flipping away until the dog falls. Reenter the newly opened room. Search the shelf on the left to find a large Medi Pack (25), and search the shelf on the right to find SECRET #2, a gold rose (26). Exit this room, run through the little courtyard, and reenter the hallway. Turn right and run down the hallway to the other little courtyard. Turn left and exit the courtyard to return to the street. Run forward down the street and turn left to reenter the garden. Angle Lara to the left and cross the garden. When Lara reaches the wall, turn left and run along the wall and reenter the tunnel that leads up to the temple. Follow the tunnel as it spirals up and to the right four times to return to the lawn in front of the temple. |

Run forward to the ledge that is just to the right of the set of steps
near the left wall. Climb up onto the ledge and turn left. Take a
standing jump over the steps to the wall beyond. Turn left and run to
the orange building. Turn left once more and run the length of the wall until Lara reaches the building that Larson and Pierre were standing on earlier. Angle Lara to the right and take a running jump to the red terra cotta roof of the building that is adjacent to the wall. Run to the other end of the roof and locate the tall gray stone building with the open upper floor. Take a running jump to the building and run forward to pick up a box of revolver ammo (27) and a large Medi Pack (28). Reverse roll, and take a running jump back to the tile roof. Run back down the length of the building and angle Lara to the left. Take a running jump back to the wall and turn left. Run back to the corner of the wall and turn right. |

LaserSight
|
Run forward to the end of this wall and turn right. Drop to the
stairs below. Turn left and run up the stairs. Turn right and run up
the ramp. Pick up another LaserSight9
(29), and angle Lara to the left. Run around behind the two columns and pick up another box of revolver ammo (30). Reverse roll, and run forward. Turn left when Lara is past the two columns, and step out onto the white stone ramp in front of the temple. Turn right and run down the ramp to the opening that was created when Lara shot the bell. Climb up into the opening. Walk forward to the edge of the opening and take a standing jump10 out of the opening and grab onto the opening in the building beyond. Pull up into the opening and run forward into the building. A flock of bats will swarm out. Charge through them to the carved face, and reach into its mouth to actuate the switch inside which will open the entrance to the temple. Quickly, reverse roll, and run back to the opening. Take a running jump out of the opening and attempt to grab the opening ahead. Lara will not actually grab anything but the act of trying to grab will adjust her trajectory and cause her to fall into the opening rather than bumping her head on the opening and falling to her death. Run forward and drop to the ramp below. Run forward, up the ramp, and turn left when Lara reaches the entrance of the temple. Run inside to find two pedestals with a statue of a raven perched on each one. Angle Lara to the left and run to the back left corner of the chamber. Turn left and enter the passage there. Run down the steps, and follow the passage around to the left twice and up some steps until Lara comes to a grate with a lever beside it, and have Lara throw the lever. The raven statue on left pedestal will break apart revealing a dove. Turn left, run down the steps and follow the passage back to the chamber by turning right twice and running up the steps. Run all the way up the steps until Lara is behind the statue of the dove. Turn right, and step up onto the platform with the two pedestals. Rotate the pedestal that dove statue is sitting on and a door will open and the battering ram overhead will begin to swing. Take a hop backwards, and turn left. Run down the steps on the other side of the chamber and down the steps into the passage ahead. Turn right and run up the steps, through the doorway that Lara just opened by rotating the dove statue. Run up the ramp and turn right. Run up the next ramp and turn right. Walk forward, until Lara is just outside the tunnel. Lara can also crawl out onto the ledge to reduce her chances of getting hit by the battering ram. Turn left and either hop backwards and grab the ledge or have Lara lower herself over the edge, depending on whether she was standing or crawling. Shimmy to the right, around two outside corners, and one inside corner until Lara can pull up. Do so and turn right. Throw the lever ahead. The raven statue on the right pedestal will now break apart. Hop backwards and turn left. Hop backwards again and grab the edge of the platform to safety drop to the ground. Reverse roll, run forward to the corner of the chamber, and turn right. Run forward and turn right once more when Lara is behind the other dove statue. Vault up onto the platform and rotate the pedestal so that both doves are now facing the same direction. This will cause the door at the base of the temple to open. Run forward and exit the temple. When Lara is beyond the columns, turn right and run forward to the wall ahead. |

opening. Take a standing jump back across the street and grab the
opposite opening. Pull up and run forward, back into the room with
the carved face. Two alcoves have been opened, so turn left and enter the first alcove to find a small Medi Pack (31). Reverse roll, cross the room to find SECRET #3, another gold rose (32). Reverse roll, and exit this alcove. Turn left and walk out to the edge of this opening. Take a standing jump across the street and grab the bottom edge of the opening in the wall ahead. Saturn Symbol
|
Turn and run down the steps to the lawn in front of the temple. Turn
left and run across the lawn. Turn left when Lara reaches the steps
that lead down into the base of the temple. Enter the little chamber
and pick up the Saturn Symbol (33). Reverse roll and exit this alcove Lara makes her way down from the temple mount and returns to the garden. As she rounds the corner to the front of the garden building, she finds Pierre loitering there. Lara immediately draws her pistols and aims them at him. Pierre doesn't seem impressed, "Come, come, Lara. We are all friends here." He clicks his tongue and motions with one of his guns. Larson appears from behind the building, sneaking up on Lara and trains his revolver on Lara's head, "Begging your pardon, ma'am, but if you'd like to put them peashooters away. Lara holsters her pistols and Larson shoves her forward Pierre now feels confident enough to make some demands of Lara, "Now, the second stone if you please, Miss Croft." "Come get it," Lara dares. "Hmmm," Pierre wonders aloud. He's wiser after having attempted to get close to Lara the night before. "It's a little late in the evening for these games." He turns to Larson and issues a command, "Larson, search her if you please." Larson, having a short memory is clearly pleased, "Well, gosh darn if I don't get all the best jobs." He walks forward, facing her and puts his hand on her midriff, copping a gratuitous feel. He then kneels down and runs his hands up her bare legs. Lara quickly tires of getting groped by this gorilla, so she suggests, "You want to try the back pockets?" As Larson leans in to put his hands on her behind, she knees him in the groin. Pierre is fed up, "Larson! Enough! My patience is exhausted with this childish nonsense. The stone, Miss Croft." Pierre trains his gun on Lara. Lara produces the Saturn Symbol from her pack and holds it out to Pierre. She offers him a warning, "If you put this into that gate, Pierre, you're going to get a lot more than you bargained for, trust me." Larson is standing by, still doubled over, with both hands between his thighs. Pierre now hesitates. Larson steps forward. Feeling his manliness in jeopardy, he walks past Lara, and snatches the symbol out of her hands, while announcing, "I'll put it in then." Lara offers an additional warning to Larson, "That would be one of the stupidest moves you've made, and that's saying something I think you'll appreciate." Pierre continues to hesitate, this time verbally, "Uh..." Larson slips the Saturn Stone in its receptacle. Looking around and realizing that nothing has happened, he turns to Pierre and shrugs. Pierre regains his confidence and gloats, "A nice try as always, Miss Croft." "Wait for it," Lara replies. A moment later, a bolt of electricity shoots from the building and zaps Larson. "Don't say I didn't warn you," Lara reminds them. Pierre quickly runs to Larson's aid, and the two of them frantically pat down Larson's jeans, which are on fire. "What is it? What have we done?" A panicked Pierre asks? "In your usual flamboyant style," Lara explains. "You have set in motion the next gate phase." "Next gate phase?" Pierre puzzles. "If my memory serves me," Lara thinks, looking up. "The gate has realigned itself and if it does not receive two stones in the next few moments... poof!" Lara gestures a big explosion with both her hands. Lara attempts to imitate Larson's low-brow vocabulary to make sure she drove her point home, "If I was you, I'd grab your Cro-Magnon cowboy over there and run as fast as your little legs can carry you. Au revoir, mon cher." Lara turns and walks away, leaving the two panicked men to wonder what their next move ought to be. Lara quickly heads down the street to a nearby neighborhood11. From her research, she has deduced that this is most likely the neighborhood where the last two stones lay. Lara follows the twists and turns of the street until she abruptly runs into a dead end. She turns around to survey the buildings around her.(follow plot) |
