Streets of Rome |
Items: 33 |
Kills: 6 |
| The Streets of Rome is fairly straightforward to get through, but in case you need a few hints, then do read on. | |||
Boot Camp
The first notable change in our latest adventure is a fusion of previous Tomb Raider game training. Like the earlier Tomb Raider games, the training is once again optional, however like The Last Revelation, the training areas have been integrated into the main game levels. The difference is that rather than devoting an entire level to training, Chronicles provides a small side-track in the first level for training. If you want all the items and secrets in the game, then you'll have to jump through the training hoops. The training level is your first left when you first arrive in the streets of Rome. Because it's training, Lara will be giving you all the hints you need, so we're not going to bother. When you're done poking around back-stage at the opera house and you find yourself back at the street you started, then you're ready to read on.
Make a Wish
Ah, is there anything as romantic as a fountain in Rome? Wander around, and you'll find that the only area that is presently of interest is near the fountain. Just about every alley is barricaded, but if you wander around, you'll eventually find a carved face. Reach inside the mouth of the carving to open a gate elsewhere. Now go look for it. It isn't hard, there aren't many choices.
Say Aaah
When you've found the second carved face, you'll know what to do. Watch out for the bats when you actuate the mechanism. The result of your little move is the raising of a section of the courtyard. Climb up the newly opened path.
Just Passing Through
After running through someone's living room, across a balcony to an adjacent building. There's an open plaza in the middle of the building, where you can deal with some dogs and open a gate back to the courtyard with the fountain, but though that could make life more convenient if you fall off a building later, that's not the current goal. Blow through some windows, and take a jump to the next building where you'll find the first item of interest.
Hotel Room Key
As you explore the next building you should be able to find a key. That key will open a gate to another building that faces the fountain in the courtyard, so don't leave the building without it. From there, you can climb to the roof of the building and drop to a awning that overlooks the courtyard. This will be a good place to take out a dog that is now guarding the courtyard below. Use the key to open the front door of the building on the opposite side of the courtyard.
Sneaky Coward
Once inside the building, you'll encounter Larson. You can't kill him, but you can scare him off if you nick him enough times. Once he's gone, explore the area to find another key. After finding the key, you can make your way up to the second story where Larson will be waiting for you again. Scare him off and tightrope walk across to the opposite ledge.
Arms Race
After getting the first Garden Key, drop to the street. You can open the gate that leads back to the fountain courtyard, but once again, it isn't necessary. Explore the next area, and you'll find a garden that is closed off. What you can do is find street where someone, namely Larson, has dropped a revolver. As you continue to explore this street, you will find a wine cellar, which will hold an accessory for the revolver and another key. The key is behind a locked door, so you'll have to use some force. You don't have a crowbar and you don't have a key, so you're going to have to use a more destructive method to get through that padlock.
Gardening Tips
Now that you have the two keys to enter the garden, you can head to the opposite end of the street, where you will find the two receptacles for the two garden keys. Funny thing is that the gate actually faces the street, and the fence between the two receptcles is just that: a fence. Once inside the garden, head to the little building, and Lara will use the Mercury Stone that she lifted off of Larson.
Clear as a Bell
After the little exchange between Larson and Pierre, explore the garden, and you'll find your way up to an old temple. Lara will be very clear on her objective, even if you're not. One well-aimed shot from the revolver will ring the bell, and open a door near the temple.
Temple Mount
The door that is opened by ringing the bell is on the left side of the temple, when facing the temple. A careful jump across the street will take Lara to a room with another carved face. A plain running jump will cause Lara to bump her head on the opposite opening. Knowing that, leaves you with a couple other moves in your repertoire. Once there, you know what to do with the carved face. In fact, you'll have to do it quick and get back out. It will open the front door to the temple.
Clay Pigeons
Inside the temple, you will find two statues of ravens. As ravens, the two statues will be completely uninteresting to you, however there are two levers in the temple that will change all that.
One Good Turn
So you've found the first switch and blasted the raven into a dove. What now? If you go over to the dove and rotate the pedestal, it will open a door that leads to the upper level of the temple. Oh yeah, it also starts that battering ram swinging. Yes, of course you're going to have to get around it.
Keep Your Head Down
You can't get past the battering ram by simply running past it. It wouldn't do you any good even if you tried. To get around the battering ram, you can shimmy around the ledge below the battering ram. If you get to the switch and throw it, you'll turn the second raven into a dove. Then a drop to the floor and another turn of a pedestal, you'll open another door in the foundation of the temple.
Rings of Saturn
Grab the Saturn Symbol from the chamber in the foundation of the temple, and you'll be on your way. Just one little interruption to your travels awaits.
