I've finally moved on after a decade of calling Boston, "home". Hey,
it's a great town. You can be sure I'll be back to visit
Yup, ol' Bean Town. Home of the Celtics and the Red Sox. Full of history,
culture, and institutions of higher learning.
So what's there to do in Boston? Plenty! Here's a few places to look:
-
This is the one and only Official City of Boston Site. Various
information about city events, landmarks, the Mayors office, city
government, and more.
-
Here's the definitive "What's in Boston?" link with info about everything
from events to a "wicked good guide to Boston English".
-
Another info packed page with all sorts of links to arts and entertainment,
universities, government, museums, and more.
-
Or more frequently referred to as "The 'T'". If you are planning to
get around the greater Boston area and wish to avoid the infamous
Boston drivers, you will definitely need to check out this site. They
have everything you need to know to get around by train, bus or
subway. If you want to know how to get from point A to point B on the
subway try the Subway
Guide or try this if you just want a
map of the MBTA system.
-
Okay, this is probably the last new entry you'll find here on this
page. In the last four or so years that we've lived in Boston, my
wife and I have been taken an annual trips to Martha's Vineyard (a
little island off the coast of Massachusetts) and we've been staying
at the Victorian, in Edgarrown. This bed-and-breakfast is beautifully
decorated and Stephen and Karyn, the innkeepers, are a charming
couple. The gourmet breakfasts are fantastic, and the huge canopy
beds are luxurious. If you're planning a vacation on the Vineyard,
you should try to get reservations here. They're usually booked three
or more months in advance. Get your call in early.
-
Great way to find a church in the greater Boston area. You don't have to
be Chinese, you just have to like to hang out with us. Also has links to
various fellowships and Christian organizations in the Boston area.
-
The Boston Globe is on-line with news and interest articles. Theater, films,
events of all sorts as well as the news can be found here.
-
If you've ever visited our lovely town, you'd know that the weather changes
every 5 minutes. Here's Boston's current weather conditions and four-day
weather forecast updated twice a day.
-
Hey, you can never have too much information about the weather in Boston, can
you? Here's NBC New's Intellicast USA weather forecast for Boston. Along with
local weather reports, there is world weather reports, skiing reports, NBC
news, radar images, almanac entries for the next two months, and even RealAudio
news reports. Just check it out.
- The Lighthouse is a service of The Tech, MIT's campus
newspaper. This is a detailed report of the current weather, short term
and extended weather forecasts, as well as storm warnings and alerts. Use
this link for The Lighthouse
main page.
- Are you looking for a good place to dine out in Boston? Here's the most
complete on-line restaurant guide you'll ever find. Honest and complete
reviews. Includes info on cuisine, location, and prices. If you have a little
money to burn, I highly recommend the
Hungary I on
Beacon Hill. Ask for a table downstairs, and try their venison.
- Boston's Museum of Fine Arts is a world-class museum with exhibits that
range from ancient Egypt to modern art. They also host many special exhibits
and film festivals.
- Another great place to spend the day is Boston's Museum of Science. They
have your standard science museum exhibits, but also lots of "hands-on"
exhibits. Along with the usual exhibits, they have a lightening show, a live
animal show, and the Mugar OmniMax theatre. You haven't seen a movie until
you seen a movie projected on their 6 story dome and piped through a 25000
Watt stereo system.
- The New England Aquarium sports one of the world's largest indoor ["Giant
Ocean"] tanks as well as a wide collection of exhibits. Along with the usual
things you expect to find at an aquarium, they also have special exhibits,
films, shows, and whale watches. The aquarium has just broken ground on their
new West wing, which should be completed in early 1998.
- What can I say about the Computer Museum of Boston? It's pretty
cool. Bring the kids and make a day of it. If you don't have the
time, they have a pretty nifty web site. (You'll need the latest
version of Macromedia's Shockwave plug-in for Netscape).
-
Here's a list of major colleges and universities in the greater Boston area.
These are schools in which I have friends and/or are listed in the
Princeton Review as one of the
Best Colleges in the United States. (and also have their own home pages).
